The Great EMF Debate & Where We Stand
on Oct 25, 2017In today's day and age, we are surrounded by technology. In many cases, that technology can be useful and convenient in our daily lives. At the same time, it's just as important to mention potential disadvantages of this connectivity.
You may be concerned about EMFs - or you might never have heard about them. Either way, we get questions on the subject quite often, therefore it makes sense to discuss in more detail in order to explain our findings and stance so that our customers can collectively draw their own informed conclusions.
What Are EMFs?
To make it simple, EMF is short for electromagnetic field. The Encyclopaedia Britannica, in turn, describes an electromagnetic field as:
A property of space caused by the motion of an electric charge.
As it turns out, a stationary charge produces an electric field around it. But if it starts to move, it will also produce a magnetic field. A changing magnetic field, in turn, can further produce and enhance electric fields.
Interactions between both types of fields will produce an EMC, which is a type of radiation. As the Encyclopaedia Britannica points out, this type of electromagnetic field can also be described as a wave that is transporting electromagnetic energy.
It's important to understand that these EMFs exist everywhere in the world. They always have, but our exposure to them has increased significantly with the amount of technology we use.
We're constantly surrounded by small amounts of energy and radiation, from our hair dryer to our toaster and of course our cell phones. That, in turn, means we are constantly surrounded by electromagnetic fields.
Before you get worried, know that the radiation produced from electromagnetic fields is non-ionizing and much weaker than the radiation you might be thinking of, which is used in medical diagnostics. Not to minimize concern, but it is important to educate yourself on the differences as part of your individual research.
Our Mattresses...
Only you can decide what is best for you and your family. Here at My Green Mattress, we have heard your concerns over the pocketed coils used in our Pure Echo and Natural Escape.
We have tested our mattresses using an EMF meter, with no measurable results. We have also had many customers tell us that they have found the same to be true in their own testing.
